The Challenge
Shannon was a retired teacher in Sherwood Park who had started walking her neighbors' dogs - a few here and there for people who were too busy to do it themselves. She was also tutoring on the side, splitting her time between both to stay active and give back to the community that she'd served for years as an educator.
She had no website, no logo, and no online presence. Her only marketing was door hanger flyers she was distributing by hand through the neighborhood. The name and the passion were there, the infrastructure wasn't.

Our Approach
Sherwood Park had very little competition in the dog walking space. The opportunity was there, we just needed to decide how big to go.
Shannon wanted to start small. She figured she'd balance dog walking with tutoring, picking up walks during dips in tutoring demand. So I targeted just the two neighborhoods she was already serving (Aspen Trails and Emerald Hills) and built a focused site to capture that local traffic.
The plan was simple: prove the concept in a small radius, then expand to all of Sherwood Park if demand justified it.
The Build
Trust through personality. Shannon's background as a longtime teacher in the community is her biggest asset. I built the site around who she is — friendly photos with happy dogs, her story as an educator and neighbor, and language designed to reassure pet owners (especially older residents) that their dogs are in caring, trustworthy hands.
Soft, playful brand. I designed a logo and color palette that feels fun and approachable - paw prints, warm tones, rounded type. It matches Shannon's personality and stands out from the corporate pet service companies.
Process-first layout. Dog owners need to trust someone with their pet before handing over a key. I laid out the process step by step, from initial meet-and-greet to the walks themselves, so owners could see exactly how the relationship builds before committing.
Strategic pricing. Shannon started with simple per-walk rates. I recommended adding a monthly package — a set block of walking time each week at a flat monthly rate. That structure meant less scheduling overhead for Shannon, predictable income, and stickier clients who commit rather than book one-off walks.

The Results
Shannon replaced her full-time teaching income - on her own terms.
What started as a few neighborhood dog walks quickly filled her schedule. She saw the potential, so I expanded the SEO targeting from two neighborhoods to all of Sherwood Park. Now she ranks #1 in the map pack and #1 in organic results for "dog walker sherwood park."
The monthly package was so popular she added a second, larger tier — more weekly walking time with a free second dog included. Tutoring is no longer part of the equation. Shannon has the freedom of retirement with the income of a full-time career, doing something she loves for the community she's served her whole life.
"Fantastic service! Ravencrest was very diligent about creating a site to showcase my business. They touched base with me throughout the entire process and made sure everything was exactly how I envisioned. I would highly recommend them to anyone wanting a quality, standout website!"
